How long does it take to recover?

Many people wonder how long it will take for them to recover fully from adrenal fatigue. The answer is not so cut and dry and this is due to people’s bodies being different from one another. Some people may heal faster, others slower. Generally speaking, it can take anywhere from 6 to 18 months to heal fully. There are also outliers who will heal in less than 6 months along with those who will take longer than 18 months to make a full recovery.

How severe is your AF?

The answer to how quickly you will heal lies in how severe your AF is. If you refer back to our testing for adrenal fatigue (INSERT INTERAL LINK HERE) you will recall that there is no definitive test for AF. There are only vague guidelines that suggest what stage of AF you might have. Feeling only a little lethargic but otherwise normal? You might be in stage 1. If you’re dragging throughout the day and have little to no energy, then you could be in stage 3 or 4.

If you’re in stage 3 or 4, it could take upwards of a year or more to heal fully. By this point in time, your adrenal glands have completely depleted themselves of the beneficial hormones which help your body regulate various functions. Because these glands no longer work, it can take a very long time to heal up. They were not designed to run at full speed, only in short bursts.

You must be willing to change your lifestyle

This is probably the #1 reason why some people heal faster than others. They have the desire to get healthy again. They’re tired of every single day being a repeat of the last. They want to experience how good they felt when they were a teenager or in their early 20’s.

One of the quickest ways to do this is to change your diet. Cut out caffeine, alcohol, tobacco and recreational drugs. They serve no purpose. There might be a few weeks to a few months of withdrawals if you regularly consume tobacco, alcohol or caffeine. During this time period you could feel even worse than you do now.

Stressful situations can also hinder your recovery. Jobs, relationships, life issues….these all can negatively affect you in ways you can’t begin to imagine.

Don’t give up hope!

As your body detoxes from these impurities you will slowly but surely start to feel better. You will get stronger and your will power will increase as well. As with working out, no pain, no gain. Remove yourself from toxic relationships. If your job is the main cause of stress, something as simple as created an escape plan can give you a psychological boost that will motivate you to carry through and find a new, better job in which you won’t be stressed all of the time.
